We will ensure a sustainable earnings-related pension system and pensions people can live on

Matters regarding earnings-related pension are prepared in tripartite cooperation. The objective is to have a sustainable earnings-related pension system that safeguards pension funds for the pensions of future generations, too.

Several factors influence the sustainability of the earnings-related pension system. The economy, employment, working careers, and birth rate play a significant role. It is important that working careers are prolonged also by supporting people’s ability to work and wellbeing at work. SDP works to improve these prerequisites of wellbeing. Increasing employers’ share in the financing of pensions must be considered as an option in securing the sustainability of the pension system.

In addition to securing the purchasing power of pensions, the livelihood of low-income pensioners who use a lot of services must be improved by making changes in health and social service client fees and reimbursements for medicine and travel expenses. We must also resolutely keep raising the level of small pensions.

SDP also wants to make it more motivating to work on old-age pension. The coordination of housing assistance, taxation and earned income is taken into account.
